			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> 11 Jan 2012 &#8211; We were expecting that things will be changing in Google and I&#8217;ve been following this for a little while so this didn&#8217;t come as a complete surprise. Ok, maybe the fact it happened this early January is a bit of a shock! But this is how Google rolls. </p>
<p> This is &#8216;Search, plus Your World&#8217;, which makes Google&#8217;s robots to incorporate data from its social network as well as the internet when delivering search results. </p>

<p> &#8220;But clearly, that isn&#8217;t enough. To this I would say, good luck to Google. They produce some amazing products &amp; services and I for one won&#8217;t be complaining one bit! </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"> If you don&#8217;t like the way &#8216;Search, plus Your World&#8217; displays search results, you can switch it off. </p>

<p> Did you watch tonight&#8217;s episode of The Apprentice ? If not, then you missed a really good episode. It was all about creating a free magazine. Those of you who  have been to one of my seminars or are my students, know how passionate I am about the free business model or the Freemium model. </p>
<p> It is without question one of the most powerful business models in this economic climate. No matter what business you&#8217;re in, what you sell or what you do, you can apply this model to more profitability. We changed our business model from &#8216;Premium&#8217; to &#8216;Freemium&#8217; a few years ago and it has completely changed our business. </p>
<p>  <a href="http://sfphotoschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/The-Apprentice.jpg">  <img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2816" title="The-Apprentice" src="http://sfphotoschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/The-Apprentice.jpg" alt="" width="625" height="331" />  </a>  </p>
<p> A great example is of the Evening Standard newspaper. One of the top evening &#8216;paid for&#8217; newspaper, they changed their business model from &#8216;Premium&#8217; to &#8216;Freemium&#8217; and now it is given away to commuters in London free of charge. There are of course other newspapers which are competing with the Evening Standard and they are all given away free! Puzzled? You must be wondering how they can compete with each other when they are free. They are competing for the advertising revenue through which they make their profits. It makes these publications more profits since they went free. </p>
<p> I watch these kinds of programs with great interest and pick up golden nuggets of information from the wisdom of successful people like Lord Sugar, Donald Trump, etc. </p>
<p> This episode should be an eye opener for those who do not negotiate. The team which lost this task was the one which did not negotiate! I&#8217;m not saying that this was the main reason, but a huge factor in their loss. Whether you are buying or selling, the situation needs to be WIN WIN. Not Win/Lose, Lose/Win or Lose/Lose. Both the buyer and the seller should feel that they have got a good deal and value for their money. I negotiate with every supplier we buy from and I don&#8217;t take any offence if one of my customers negotiate a better price or a better deal with me. This makes business all the more enjoyable. Negotiating is a skill which quite often takes years to master. All I would say is don&#8217;t be shy. If you don&#8217;t ask, you don&#8217;t get. </p>
<p> I&#8217;ve heard &amp; read comments from other photographers as to how they don&#8217;t negotiate, well you probably know a bit better  that if you don&#8217;t then you may lose out. During  <strong>  <a href="http://sfphotoschool.com/the-art-of-wedding-photography/" target="_blank"> The Art of Wedding Photography </a>  </strong>  webinar series I touched on the subject of free sessions and how to monetize it. The way I&#8217;ve got my business modelled is completely different to a vast majority of photographers and a lot of the attendees were pleasantly surprised as to how I make money from free sessions. If you give something of great value with good content for free up front, you won&#8217;t have much problem selling on the back of it; however, most photographers refuse to do this, they would rather just want to sell up front without giving much value for money. This is where a huge shift in mindset is required and one needs to change with the times. </p>

<p> Compare the difference of buying a car now to say about 10 years ago. Before you would just get a car for your money, whereas now, you get offers which are hard to resist like 7 yrs warranty, free servicing, free insurance, road side assistance, tank of petrol and so on. Car manufacturers are fighting each other for your cash. You too need to be doing the same thing to convert more leads into sales, more prospects into buyers. I&#8217;m not saying that you should just give away loads of discounts and make less money, you need to think of how to sell for less and make more money! Make sense ? </p>

<p> Guy Kawasaki is the co-founder of  <a href="http://alltop.com/" target="_blank"> Alltop.com </a> , an “online magazine rack” of popular topics on the web, and a founding partner at  <a href="http://www.garage.com/" target="_blank"> Garage Technology Ventures </a> . Previously, he was the chief evangelist of Apple. Kawasaki is the author of ten books including  <em> Enchantment, Reality Check, The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream, </em>  and  <em> The Macintosh Way. </em>  Kawasaki has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA as well as an honorary doctorate from Babson College. </p>

<p>  <strong> What&#8217;s your name and what do you do ? </strong>  </p>
<p> I&#8217;m Martyn Greswolde, I run Greswolde Photography, a photography business in Wolverhampton, West Midland </p>
<p>  <strong> When did you start your business ? </strong>  </p>
<p> I have been a freelance photographer since 1999 and started my own company back in 2005 </p>

<p>  <strong> What kind of work do you specialise in ? </strong>  </p>
<p> I mainly shoot weddings and location portraits but also undertake commercial shoots as well as large dance events such as Global Gathering and Creamfield </p>
<p>  <strong> You&#8217;ve been using Foto SF for the last few years, how has Foto SF helped you in organising your business ? </strong>  </p>
<p> I started using Foto SF when version 2 came out. Like many photographers I started up because I loved photography and not because I loved paperwork. Unfortunately paperwork is a must with any business so I needed a system that was quick, accurate but above all else, easy to use. </p>
<p> Before I had Foto SF I never really bothered tracking such simple things as business mileage or the costs of stamps, I saw then as just too time consuming with such little reward. In the first year of using the software, my claim for these two simple items more than paid for the software outright! </p>
<p> I now find it easy to collate all of the information required to run my business and better still, when a client calls, I can have ALL of their information on screen within seconds. This makes me look and sound much more organised and professional which is a must to secure ongoing and repeat business </p>
<p>  <strong>  <a href="http://www.fotosf.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Becky-Edward_276.jpg">  <img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-413" title="Becky-Edward_276" src="http://www.fotosf.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Becky-Edward_276.jpg" alt="" width="390" height="260" />  </a> What is your favourite feature ? </strong>  </p>
<p> This is a difficult question to ask and similar to asking what is your favorite ingredient in a meal. All of the features come together so well its hard to single one out. If I was forced to answer it would be the reports. As simple and as boring as they seem they give you an insight into your customers and products. Within a few clicks you can see what products are selling well, how much money they make you and who is buying them. This information is invaluable and at the heart of any marketing I do. </p>
<p> &nbsp; </p>
<p>  <strong> Has Foto SF helped you save money on accountancy bills ? </strong>  </p>
<p> While Foto SF is great, unfortunately it doesn’t complete your tax return for you, for that I rely of the services of a professional. When I first gave my accountant my paperwork as well as the reports automatically generated by Foto SF, my accountant was impressed. When he gave me my audited accounts I was impressed that I saved 50% of the original accountancy quote. My accountants found that the reports I submitted were so detailed and relevant they had to complete far less work than normal and as a result charged me less. </p>
<p>  <strong> What advise would you give to photographer&#8217;s who currently don&#8217;t use a database. </strong>  </p>
<p> Working in an industry like ours without a database is like working for nothing, let me explain. You may take the best pictures in the world and you may give the best customer service in the world, but without a database all of your hard work is lost at the end of your job. Every new booking and every new photo shoot you will be starting afresh. Your database allows you to engage your existing clients and market effectively to new ones. By transferring this work from job to job you will build up data that will allow you to be more productive and spend less time in front of your computer. </p>
